Tribute to Gasparo da Salò
Double bass 4-string
This instrument is a fairly faithful copy of the double bass Gasparo da Salò circa 1550 that can be seen on the Strad Magazine poster.
On this copy I realized the same pattern of purflings on the table top and the table back as the original, I redraw the peg, since the original was changed in a long time.
Materials :
The flat table back and ribs are in European flamed maple from the same piece of wood and the neck is European flamed maple.
The two-piece table top is made of European fir.
The interior of the box has the same characteristics as the original.
.
Oil varnishes applied by myself. The base layer and the old patina were done by the excellent luthier Martin Héroux.
